The success coach works collaboratively with the school counselors, teachers, and parents to support the academic, social/emotional, and college and career development of the students to ensure their successful completion of the graduation pathway requirements and build a post-secondary plan through college and career exploration. Success coaches work with students in grades 7-12 using the Indiana Career Coaching Framework for core targets at each grade level. Their focus on a caseload of students engages them in the understanding of the use of the graduation pathway and high school diploma requirements to create individualized strategies and support systems to help the students reach their full potential.
The primary responsibilities of the success coaches include the development of a plan for each student on their caseload that focuses on their strengths and identifies areas of improvement and personal development. They assist students with goal setting, accessing resources, study skills, and self-regulation strategies. They also monitor student progress to engage them in academic support through the development of an academic plan and goal setting. Data collection and use in monitoring student plans is an important part of this position.
Success coaches serve as a positive role model by mentoring students, fostering confidence and resilience, and a growth mindset. They engage the family through communication on the academic progress of their child as well as their post-secondary plans and the sharing of resources to support their child. They are funded through the College Matters: Reversing the Trend four-year grant. Some evening hours are required to support school/family events, but the primary portion of this job will be during the school day in all of the secondary schools and programs.
